I knew this day was coming.  I tried to prepare myself.  I failed…miserably.

It was one year ago that I left our house knowing that when we returned our threesome would be a party of four.  I knew she was a girl.  I knew her name.  I had a pretty good idea of what she would look like.

But I had no clue.

I didn’t know how ridiculously cute she would be.  I didn’t know she would make me laugh so hard.  I didn’t know she would change our family so much.  I didn’t have a clue that I would be so deeply in love with this curly haired little butterball of a girl.

What children take from us, they give.
We become people who feel more deeply,
question more deeply,
and love more deeply.

A girl that laughs from her belly at the simplest of things; is cautious of strangers; does nothing half-way; wears her heart on her sleeve; wants nothing more than to be her brother’s best friend; would rather eat shoes than wear them; loves a stinky little piggy and jumps with excitement at the sight of him.  A girl that lights up a room with the crack of a single grin…
